New Delhi: The highly anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy is scheduled to kick off on November 22 in Perth, with both teams gearing up for a crucial series ahead. India, aiming for a historic hat-trick of series wins in Australia, sees this as a golden opportunity to make their mark. A victory would not only strengthen their position in the World Test Championship (WTC) final race but also solidify their dominance in international cricket. On the other hand, Australia is facing high stakes as well, with a loss potentially putting their own WTC final aspirations in jeopardy. The hosts will be eager to turn the tide and end their decade-long losing streak against the formidable Indian team. With so much on the line, the upcoming series promises to be a thrilling and fiercely competitive battle between two cricketing powerhouses.

Australia enters the series in a much stronger position than India, who are reeling from a demoralizing 0-3 defeat against New Zealand. India’s batting unit has struggled for consistency, and their bowling attack appears overly reliant on Jasprit Bumrah. To make matters worse, the team will be without skipper Rohit Sharma, who is on paternity leave, and Shubman Gill, sidelined due to injury, for the opening Test.

India will lean heavily on their senior players to use their experience and steer the team to victory. A pivotal figure for the visitors will be R Ashwin, who was instrumental in the previous series, finishing as India’s second-highest wicket-taker with 12 dismissals in three Tests. The veteran spinner will aim to replicate his impactful performances in the upcoming contest.

R Ashwin stands on the brink of a historic milestone as the first Test in Perth approaches. The veteran off-spinner, who recently overtook Nathan Lyon to become the leading wicket-taker in the World Test Championship (WTC), is just six wickets away from becoming the first player to reach 200 wickets in the championship. With 194 wickets under his belt, Ashwin has a golden opportunity to etch his name in history. Meanwhile, Lyon, close behind with 187 wickets, will be keen to challenge Ashwin in this exciting race for WTC supremacy.
